The New Normal of Control

In the EU, new legislation forces the scanning of private messages, transforming every phone into a government surveillance device.
Germany has criminalised online criticism of officials. France has prosecuted tech leaders who defend privacy. The UK has jailed thousands for their tweets. If you had described these policies a decade ago, most people would have laughed them off as science fiction. Yet here we are.
What is more frightening than the policies themselves is the reaction of the public. Or rather, the lack of it. There is a growing acceptance that “the powers that be are too powerful.” A quiet resignation that this is just the way things are going to be.
But that is the lie. That is the spell.
Conditioning the Population
Step back and you will see the pattern. Every measure introduced under the guise of safety, security, or protecting children is not about care but about control. The conditioning is happening in stages. Step one: create fear. Fear of disinformation, fear of terrorism, fear of online predators, fear of crime. Step two: propose control measures as solutions. Step three: normalise the loss of privacy and freedom as a reasonable price to pay for safety.
This same conditioning is happening in finance. People are being primed to accept Central Bank Digital Currencies as “progress.” The story is that CBDCs will be faster, cheaper, more efficient. But strip away the glossy marketing and you see the truth. CBDCs will merge identity with money. They will allow governments and central banks to freeze accounts, block transactions, and control behaviour at the most intimate level. They will create a system where dissent is not only censored but economically impossible.
And here is the part that cuts deepest: crypto itself has been used as a training ground for this conditioning.
Fake DeFi as a Gateway to CBDCs
Crypto was supposed to be the antidote. Immutable code. Trustless systems. A way out of financial slavery. Yet what has been built in much of the industry looks more like a mirror of the very control we claim to resist. Chains with admin keys. Protocols with freeze functions. Projects marketed as DeFi that are in fact completely centralised.
Investors are being softened up to accept censorship in exchange for convenience and yield. The football stadium sponsorships, the shiny marketing campaigns, the promises of instant transfers, these are not signs of freedom. They are distractions. They are the sugar coating on the pill. Projects with low validator counts and mutable code are not liberators. They are traps.
The Fear and the Desperation
Why do people fall for it. Fear and desperation. When people are broke, when inflation eats their savings, when jobs no longer pay, they will reach for whatever promises quick relief. Flashy new tokens. Next cycle hype. The loudest influencers shouting about speed and gains. It is the same human weakness that has been exploited for centuries. Bread and circuses. Shiny distractions.
And this is why the real fight is not only technical but also emotional. It is about waking people up from fear, from distraction, from the desperation that keeps them chasing quick fixes. Because as long as people remain trapped in that cycle, they will never see the cage being built around them until the door slams shut.
The Truth About Scale
Here is the great misconception. Many people think the answer lies in a single blockchain that can process billions of transactions per second. They imagine some super-chain that can replace the entire global system at once. That is a fantasy. It is neither necessary nor desirable.
The truth is far more elegant. If the right blockchain is built, one that is truly decentralised, immutable, and trustless, it can be copied and pasted. Over and over again. Thousands of times. Each instance self-sufficient, sovereign, incorruptible. And then they can be linked together.
