What Makes PulseChain Different from Ethereum
It started as a fork of Ethereum's state. At Ethereum block 17,232,999, every account balance, ERC-20 token, NFT, and smart contract state was copied onto PulseChain, making it the largest airdrop in history. Ethereum holders at that block received equivalent positions across the entire ecosystem on PulseChain. The chains have diverged independently since then.
PLS is not ETH. PulseChain's native gas token is PLS. You need PLS, not ETH, to pay for any transaction on PulseChain. They are different assets on different networks and are not interchangeable.
It is a separate chain, not Ethereum with different settings. PulseChain runs its own validators, its own consensus, and its own asset ecosystem. Assets do not move between PulseChain and Ethereum automatically. Moving them requires the bridge, a separate piece of infrastructure with its own trust model.
EVM compatibility means tooling works, not that the networks are the same. PulseChain is Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible, so most Ethereum tooling (MetaMask, Solidity contracts, block explorers) works on it. But "compatible" requires configuration. MetaMask does not connect to PulseChain by default.
Seven Things Beginners Consistently Get Wrong
1. Treating PulseChain as Ethereum with lower fees. They are separate chains with separate validators, separate assets, and a separate bridge between them. The code lineage is shared; the networks are not the same thing.
2. Sending Ethereum assets to a PulseChain address without bridging. ETH or ERC-20 tokens sent directly to a PulseChain wallet address do not arrive as PulseChain assets. The chains are separate. Moving assets between them requires using the bridge. After bridging, tokens do not appear in your wallet automatically: you must manually import the token using its PulseChain contract address before it becomes visible.
3. Expecting MetaMask to work without adding the network. MetaMask defaults to Ethereum mainnet. PulseChain must be added using specific network values. The simplest method is using the one-click add option on pulsechain.com where available. Alternatively, add the network manually using the verified values in the MetaMask setup guide.
4. Attempting to swap on PulseX without PLS for gas. PulseX is a PulseChain DEX that requires PLS to execute any transaction. New users who arrive on PulseChain with bridged assets but no PLS cannot execute any swap until they obtain PLS first. This is the bootstrap problem. 5. Assuming bridged assets carry the same trust guarantees as native assets. A bridged asset's value depends on the bridge continuing to function correctly. A native PulseChain asset does not carry this dependency. They are different risk profiles.
6. Expecting Ethereum UX parity. Most tokens require manual import to appear in MetaMask. MetaMask Portfolio does not support PulseChain. Explorer interfaces differ from Etherscan. The liquidity environment is also not the same: while PulseChain tools are EVM-compatible, many fork-copy tokens have thin liquidity on PulseX. Check the liquidity pool depth on PulseX before swapping any unfamiliar token to avoid high slippage losses.
7. Assuming fork-copy stablecoins have dollar parity. The state fork copied every ERC-20 including DAI and USDC, creating pDAI and pUSDC on PulseChain. These are not pegged stablecoins. They are speculative fork-copy assets whose value is determined by market trading rather than any guaranteed backing. A bridged USDC from Ethereum is a different token entirely: a representation of a dollar locked in the bridge contract. They share a similar name and they are not the same thing. Seeing a DAI or USDC balance in your PulseChain wallet does not mean you hold dollars. Check the contract address, verify the token's origin, and check liquidity before treating any fork-copy stable as dollar-equivalent.

What to Defer
These topics are important eventually. They are not important on day one.
DeFi protocol mechanics and yield strategies belong after you understand the base layer. Governance and validator economics are not relevant to most users getting started. The full bridge trust model is covered in the bridge guide: read it before moving significant assets, but it is not a prerequisite for understanding PulseChain itself. What is PulseChain in one sentence? An independent layer-1 blockchain that launched from a copy of Ethereum's state and codebase, then continued as a separate network with its own validators and native asset (PLS).
Is PulseChain the same as Ethereum? No. They share code lineage and EVM compatibility, but they are separate networks with separate validators, separate assets, and a bridge between them rather than native interoperability.
